Absolutely! While our website currently focuses on practicing Dutch and connecting language mentors for Dutch, we’re planning to expand to other languages in the future.

Would you like to practice another language (like English, French, Spanish, German, or many others!) or are you interested in becoming a language mentor for a language other than Dutch? You can add your name to our waiting list!

We’ll contact you as soon as we expand our language offerings to include these other languages.

The best way to learn a language is to communicate with native speakers. Parlangi provides meaningful connections to practice the language you want to learn.

We don’t offer traditional lessons. You can video chat with native speakers and talk about everyday topics. This way, you can learn the language naturally through conversation.

That is completely up to you! You decide when and how often you connect via Parlangi. If you want to learn a language, then you will have to practice of course. Being socially active is also very healthy. And it is just a lot of fun to help each other, make new friends, have nice conversations, and learn together.

Let’s try these steps to get you going again:

• Check firewall settings: Ensure that your firewall settings are not blocking the video chat tool.
• Enable permissions: Check if your browser has permission to access your camera and microphone.
• Close other apps: Make sure your camera and microphone are not in use by another app.
• Clear your browser cache: Go to your browser settings and find the option to clear browsing data.

You will not be able to upload a profile picture or see pictures of other users. It’s our mission to connect people who might never meet in ‘real life’. Profile pictures can get in the way of that. Let yourself be surprised by who you meet and enjoy more genuine conversations.

You have a Parlangi account:
Reset your password: Go to join.parlangi.net. Click ‘Forgot your password’ and follow the instructions. If your login name (usually your email address) is correct, you will receive a reset link via mail. 

You don’t have a Parlangi account yet:
Register via our ‘Home’ page. Click on become a mentor or learn a language.

There is no need to install an app. Just go to join.parlangi.net and start the magic!

Our app is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so it’s not available in the app store. If you wish, you can install it on your mobile device by visiting join.parlangi.net and following the steps below. This will add the app to your home screen, allowing you to access it just like a regular app:

For Android:

1. Open the website in Chrome.
2. Tap the menu icon (three dots) in the upper-right corner.
3. Select ‘Add to Home screen’.

For iOS:

1. Open the website in Safari.
2. Tap the share icon (square with an arrow pointing up).
3. Select ‘Add to Home Screen’.

• Video chat: Connect with native speakers through video calls. Practice speaking and listening in real-time, making your learning more interactive and effective.
• Messaging: Send text messages to your language exchange partners. This feature is great for practicing writing skills and having ongoing conversations.
• Agenda: Arrange video chats and messaging sessions at times that are convenient for you and your partner, making it easy to fit language learning into your schedule.
• Profile: Customize your profile with information about yourself, your interests, and the languages you speak. This helps you find compatible language exchange partners and makes your interactions more personalized. 
• Dashboard: Keep track of your learning progress with our built-in tools. Monitor your improvements and set goals to stay motivated.

• Are your microphone and speaker turned on?

• Is the correct microphone and speaker selected? (You can check this by clicking on the arrow next to the speaker and microphone symbols.)

• Are there other apps open on your device that are using your microphone or speaker? If so, close these other apps.

• Still no solution: Let us know  and we’ll be happy to help you further!

• Is your camera turned on?

• Is the correct camera selected? (You can check this by clicking on the arrow next to the video

Check the following things:

• Is your email address correct in your profile? Also, make sure there are no spaces before, within, or after your email address in your profile. If there are, the email address won’t be recognized.

• Check your spam folder. Sometimes, our emails end up in your spam or junk folder. Move them to your inbox or mark them as reliable/safe.

• Is your mailbox full? Empty it a bit so there’s space for new emails.

• Are you still not receiving emails? Let us know via the contact page or via the chatbot on join.parlangi.net. We’re happy to help you solve this.
